ABOUT SAPPHIRE ST.

When did you start shooting film?
Bought a Digital Harinezumi in August 2010 and it had me curious of how analogues would turn out. I dug out my old Sakure SA-22 from the storeroom in October 2010 and had been buying and attaining analogues ever since. - Loving the results of every different cameras.

Why do you shoot film?
The love for the classics, anticipation and surprises.

Fave Camera to shoot with
I am most happy to break the rules with my Lubitel 166U. The shop told me it only takes medium format films but I was already using a 35mm for the first run. The results are simply amazing and unexpected because it reacts differently to the film compared to my other analogues.

ABOUT GD

When did you start shooting film?
It all started when I got exposed to the joy of shooting film last year (i.e. 2010) by Sapphire. Of course, I used to take film pictures - before digital cameras become fashionable and ahem, affordable - for special occasions but that was not something I do with enthusiasm. When Sapphire shared to me about her rekindled film love, I grew curious and got myself a cheap plastic camera to play with. I liked the outcome and has been shooting on film ever since.

Why do you shoot film?
Firstly, like I said before, because I like the outcome. There's a certain romantic feel when you shoot on film compared to its digital counterpart that produces clean, crisp image. Digital cameras can hope to imitate film camera's outcome but they're never really the same.

Secondly, the anticipation. Unlike shooting digitally, you cannot view your shot instantly. You have to finish the roll, send it to a developer and wait a goodly half hour more before you get to see them. Oh, and if you're like me who requests that the developed pictures to be burnt on cd instead of actually being printed, you have to wait for a little while longer till you gain access to a computer. In a way, the anticipation teaches me patience and prompted me to ponder a bit more while shooting.

ABOUT ZELL KRIS

When did you start shooting film?
I started about 10-15 years ago when analogue cameras were still considered as mainstream cameras which was before the advent of digital cameras. I've always liked holding the camera and shoot random stuff with it. Of course, I didn't do it out of enthusiasm. Since the advent of digital camera and it became mainstream to shoot with one, I was also into the mainstream idea of shooting with a digital camera which made me decide to buy a DSLR camera, Nikon D3100 in December 2010.

Film photography was being neglected for a long period of time until two of my cousins, Sapphire and Gladys had inspired me to take up film photography again. My first lomo camera, the Diana Mini arrived in the mailbox in June 2012 and I've started to shoot actively with film ever since.

Why do you shoot film?
Because I love the feeling of surprise when I finally get back the developed negatives. I also love the outcome of a film that cannot be compared with digital photography (that is without being digitally enhanced) which is the originality of the tones and colours that can only be obtained from film.

Fave Camera to shoot with
Can't decide. I love them all.
